The Emery Spartan boys welcomed the Canyon View Falcons to the Spartan Center on Wednesday in a huge game not only for Region 12 but for the RPI standings. Canyon View started quickly and never looked back handing the Spartans their fourth loss this season 78-61.

The Spartans were coming off an overtime loss to Manti last Friday and were hoping to turn things around when the Falcons came to town. Canyon View entered the game as one of the top teams in 3A.

Coming out in the first quarter, the Falcons got straight to work hanging 18 points on the Spartans while holding them to 11 in the opening eight minutes. The second was more laid back but Canyon View would expand on their lead pushing the score to 34-21 as the two teams went to the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Falcons came out and put up another 25 points on the Spartans. Emery had no answers and couldn’t come back from the deficit, and Canyon View earned the win over the Spartans.

Luke Justice poured in 26 points for Emery. Wade Stilson added 12 and Creek Sharp added 10 in the loss.

Emery moved to 10-4 overall and carries with them a 2-3 Region 12 mark. The loss also slid them to the No. 4 spot in the RPI.

Emery jumps back on the court Friday night when they will face the Carbon Dinos.

The Dinos hold a 5-8 record and are 1-4 in league play holding the No. 12 in the RPI.
