
The Carbon Lady Dino swim team captured fourth overall and the boys eighth at the Cedar Invitational over the weekend. With seventeen schools in the girl’s division and 16 on the boy’s side, it was a great weekend of swimming for the Dinos.
With three meets left before region and State Championships, the Dinos will look to build on the successes they have had already this season. Region 12 Championships will take place on February 1 in Cedar City and the State Championships will happen February 16 & 17 at BYU.
Copper Hills was the top school on the girl’s side followed by Cedar City. Green Canyon, Carbon, and Desert Hills made up the top five.
Relays were once again a success for the Lady Dinos as they held top ten finishes in the 200 free and medley as well as the 400. Mia Crompton, Lisa King, Alyssa Chamberlain, and Ada Bradford earned a third-place finish in the 400 medley. Crompton, King, Chamberlain, and Kanyon Christensen took fifth in the 200 free relay, and Christensen, Bradford, Hadley Bower, and Ember Lyman finished tenth in the 200 medley.
Individually Chamberlain earned first place in the 100 free turning in a time of 59.90, followed by Crompton in second, and in the 200 free Chamberlain finished in seventh with Crompton in eighth. King finished third in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free. Maya Bower earned sixth place in the 500 free and tenth in the 100 fly. Bradford took fifth in the 500 free, Rachael Blackburn earned a ninth-place finish in the 500 free, and Ellie Hanson swam her way to seventh place in the 500 free.
Crimson Cliffs took the top spot in the boy’s division followed by Viewmont, Cedar City, Canyon View, and Hurricane completed the top five.
The Carbon boys had a pair of top-ten finishes with a seventh place in the 400 medley that included Mason Engar, Bracken Hanson, Cameron Jones, and Jackson Thayn. In the 200 medley Ky Earl, Spencer Hepworth, Logan Kranendonk, and James Tullis swam their way to tenth place.
Jones finished with a fourth in the 500 free and seventh in the 200 free. Hanson was ninth in the 500, and Engar was seventh in the 100-yard backstroke and eighth in the 200 free.
Carbon will head back to the pool on Friday when they travel to Moab to face Grand.
