
With just a couple of meets left in the regular season, the Emery Spartan wrestling squad traveled to Spanish Fork over the weekend to take part in the Battle for the Buckle. This meet featured 10 teams and most of the wrestlers had nine matches in two days.
Emery is getting close to the end of the regular season and looking forward to the postseason that starts with the Divisional Round that will take place on February 2 & 3 at Emery.
Host team Spanish Fork claimed the top spot followed by Hurricane in second. Crimson Cliffs, the JV All-Stars, and Payson rounded out the top five. Emery was just on the outside in sixth. As a team, the Spartans logged wins over Bingham, Maple Mountain, Alta, and Green Canyon.
Seven out of the 12 wrestlers competing over the weekend completed the tournament with a winning record. Ty Christiansen at (106) went 5-4. Ryan Collard (126), was 6-3, Tayden Allen (144) 5-4. Damon Farley at 150 pounds finished the weekend at 7-2, Boden Christman (157) ended with a 5-4 mark, Hazen Meccariello (165) went 6-3, and Devon Byars (175) was 5-4.
Up next for the Spartans is the final road contest of the regular season on Tuesday, when they will travel to Roosevelt to face the Union Cougars.
The final home meet will be Thursday when Emery welcomes Maple Mountain to the Spartan Center for “Senior Night”.
