The Lady Spartans started their long string of road games to end the regular season on Thursday in Richfield. Even though there were points in the game where it looked like Emery would get over the hump, The Wildcats took the win on their home floor 57-46.

Coming off a huge home win on Tuesday over Delta 60-30 for “Senior Night”, the Lady Spartans will now take to the road for the remaining three games of their regular season.

The first quarter started out very competitive, as most contests between Emery and Richfield do, it doesn’t matter what sport it is these two teams always leave it all out there. The Spartans took a 15-12 lead at the end of one. The second quarter was about Richfield starting to put distance between them and the Spartans, as the Wildcats took a slight 26-24 edge to the locker room at halftime.

Coming out in the third Emery had a tough time finding the bottom of the basket as the Wildcats increased their defense holding them to just eight points in the quarter, as Richfield found their stroke and pushed the lead to 43-32 headed to the final quarter. In the fourth, both teams played even each scoring 14 but the Wildcats came away with the 57-46 win.

Aliya Lester led the way for Emery with 12, while Katelyn Nielson scored 11 and Kenadie Maughn scored eight in the loss.

The loss drops the Lady Spartans to 10-8 overall with a 5-5 record in region play, Emery also sits in the No. 9 spot in the RPI.

Three road contests remian on the schedule before the State Championships begin on February 13.

Emery will be on the road at Manti on Tuesday and will wrap up the week in Cedar City to face Canyon View next Friday.
