Emery High School senior Abby Morris signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Weatherford College Friday afternoon at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Morris, the 3A Utah High School player of the year, signed the letter of intent in front of her family and teammates.

“This is super exciting, and I love sharing this with all the people and teammates I love,” said Morris. “There are a lot of schools in Texas that we went to for visits, but Weatherford just really stood out.”

Morris will leave Emery High School as one of the most decorated players in the program’s history. As a junior she earned a 3A All-State selection, helping the Lady Spartans advance to the semifinals as the No. 12 seed. Morris elevated her game to a higher level this past season, helping Emery earn the No. 1 seed and the program’s first state championship since 1996.

Just weeks after the Lady Spartans claimed the state championship, Morris was named the top player in the entire 3A classification.

“That meant a lot, it was definitely exciting,” said Morris when asked about the award. “It is a huge accomplishment, but it is also just a title. I hope the younger girls coming up just realize you can shoot for the stars.”

Morris will join a successful junior college program in Weatherford, who earned a spot in the NJCAA D1 National Tournament in 2023.

Friday’s signing event concluded with the Lady Spartans receiving their State Championship rings, capping off an unforgettable season with the ultimate reward.

“I love Emery High School,” said Morris. “We were talking about our motto, which is ‘do better’, and that has been our mindset the last four years. This place has made me become a better athlete and definitely a better person. I will always love this place.”
