Vona Marie Zufelt, age 87, of Wellington, Utah passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024.
She was born May 22, 1936 in La Junta, Colorado to Seth E and Opal Mae West Simpson. She married Bobbie Joe Peters March 28,1950. Together, they had five children. During their marriage they started a guide and outfitting business and built a hunting lodge near Hamilton, Colorado. Vona loved the outdoors, wildlife, and meeting new people. Many of the hunters said they returned year after year because they loved her cooking. They later divorced. She then married Tony Zufelt on December 3, 1994.
Vona was baptized August 10, 1946 at 10 years of age as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her greatest love was for her God, Jehovah. She and Tony were fulltime ministers for many years and spent countless hours talking to people about the Bible, sharing their hope with anyone who would listen. Tony died October 29, 2011. She continued serving Jehovah in the fulltime ministry knocking on doors and conducting Bible studies. She also volunteered at Kingdom Hall construction projects, working in the kitchen, cooking and washing dishes or wherever she was needed.
Vona loved people. She would give you a great big hug and when you asked her how she was, she would always say, “I’m better now that I see you!” Everyone was “special” to her. She would say, “I wouldn’t trade you for three bushels of onions, and I really like onions!”
She is survived by her children, Bobby (Jeanie) Peters, Cañon City, Colorado, Opal (Mike) Myers, Wellington, Utah, Marita (Orville) Douglas, Florence, Arizona, Edith (Brian) Manning, Grand Junction, Colorado, Seth (Linda) Peters, Craig, Colorado; stepchildren, Richard (Jean) Zufelt, Vernal, Utah, Ray (Pat) Zufelt, Roosevelt, Utah, Toni Marie Baker, Roosevelt, Utah; sister, Verna Bryant, Kennewick, Washington; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
