Castle Country Radio is excited to have the opportunity to sit down with Director of Students, Kevin Hurst once a month to talk about what is taking place at the local university. He was excited to come in to talk about waiving application fees, fan appreciation day and the Smithsonian exhibit.

If you are a high school senior or a non-traditional student looking to apply for Fall Semester 2024 there has been some changes to fees. “Always want to remove barriers, we want to be a seamless process for anybody that would like to come and join us, maybe training or education, and so a couple of those barriers are we’ve removed an application fee. So typically, there was a $50.00 application fee for Utah State, and since we are a part of Utah State that applied for us. Often times we could waive that fee but that is gone completely,” said Hurst. This is across the state that application fees will no longer be required to apply to any university. USU Eastern use to require a $200.00 enrollment deposit that eventually was applied to tuition fees when the student began school, that type of deposit is no longer required too.

Mark your calendars for Fan Appreciation Night set for Feb. 22 and everyone in the community is invited to attend the evening’s basketball games for free. “So we’ll have some good giveaways. We’ll have some yummy food. We’ll cheer on the Eagles to really compete against a good in-conference rival that has a really good team. It should be a lot of fun and really a good, a couple of good basketball games,” said Hurst. USU Eastern is scheduled to take on College of Southern Idaho for both women’s and men’s basketball.

There will be Tech Ed Day scheduled for Feb. 27 on campus to share information about the Tech courses offered at the university. “Tech education is an important aspect and some very important programs on our campus, and so that includes our cosmetology, that includes welding, that includes some of our aviation, and various programing. We want to educate and inform anybody who would like to come learn about our technical education on Feb. 27. Come on over, and come learn about Tech Ed and these wonderful programs,” said Hurst.

Finally, there is a free Smithsonian Exhibit taking place inside the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center and local artist, Terry Willis has a few art pieces on display. “There even for sale if anybody is interested. But just really, really, a good display, good information, about Change in Rural America. Its an opportunity to come and walk thru the exhibit and it’s free,” stated Hurst. The exhibit will be housed at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center from Jan. 20 to March 3 and is free to all participants. The hours for the exhibit will be Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
