Castle Country Radio was able to catch up with Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Spokesperson, Brent Hadfield to talk about the US-191 Indian Canyon Open House being held at Price City Hall at 185 East Main Street on Feb. 22 at 5:30 pm till 7:30 pm.
Multiple projects are planned for US-191 through Indian Canyon over the next two years. “There has been about $104 million dollars that has been allocated for Highway 191 between Helper and Duchesne. Part of that money is some money the legislators put together in 2023 and the rest has come from the normal federal, state, dollars that we get to just maintain our highways. Because of that there will be a lot of projects taking place this summer and then again in 2025 summer,” said Hadfield. UDOT needs to keep the public informed so drivers can plan ahead and travel safely through this area. That is why UDOT is hosting an Open House on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 pm till 7:30 pm at the Price City Hall at 185 East Main Street in Price.
Work is set to begin in June at the US-191 and Highway 6 intersection. “We’ll be doing a traffic signal, putting up a signal similar to the one that’s on the other side of Spanish Fork right as you come in to the canyon. It’s a High-T that’s what its called and so that will be built right there. They’ll be doing pave and preservation from that intersection throughout the entire canyon going towards Duchesne,” explained Hadfield. The paving will be about 10 miles from the Helper side, as well as entering the canyon from the Duchesne side.
There was a passing lane that was started last year that will be finished up this year. “It’s at mile post 280 to 282, they started doing some culvert work and now this year they’ll be widening. So those will be in 2024 that’s this summer,” said Hadfield. Work will continue in the summer of 2025 from Emma Park Road up through 10 miles of widening and shoulder work. Those individuals that utilized this route regularly are encouraged to attend the Open House on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Price City Hall at 185 East Main Street in Price.
