The Carbon Dinos suffered a season-ending 65-44 loss to the Richfield Wildcats in the second round of the 3A State Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon in Richfield.

Entering the tournament as the No. 12 seed, the Dinos delivered a solid first half performance, trailing the No. 5 Wildcats 19-14 at the end of the first half. Richfield managed to overcome the powerful Carbon defensive performance by scoring 46 points over the final two quarters.

Sophomore guard Carter Warburton paced the Dinos with 14 points, including one make from beyond the three-point line. Senior Kahner Raby finished with nine points and freshman Jakson Basone scored eight.

The Wildcats flipped the game with stellar shooting from beyond the perimeter in the second half. As a team Richfield hit 10 shots from the three-point line, compared to just three for the Dinos.

Miles Barnett paced the Wildcats with 16 points, while Griffin Wayman scored 12 of his 15 points from the perimeter. Gage Yardley finished with 11 points and Jorgen Southwick scored eight.

Saturday’s meeting marked the third this season between the two teams, who also share Region 12. Richfield won the previous two games by double-digits, giving them the season series sweep over Carbon.

The season ending loss gives Carbon a final record of 8-15 overall. The Wildcats will now advance to the quarterfinals of the 3A State Tournament to face No. 4 Manti on Thursday morning.
