Both the Panther basketball teams earned the No. 16 spot in the final RPI that was released by the Utah High School Activities Association on Monday. The opening round of the playoffs won’t take place until Saturday, but both teams know who they will be facing.

The Pinnacle boys wrapped up the season on February 9 with a home loss to the Green River Pirates, 60-49, finishing the regular season at 9-10 overall and 2-6 in region play. Cole Barton has been a scoring machine leading the state in scoring average at 27.7 points per game.

The Panthers will face No. 17 Altamont on Saturday at Pinnacle High School, and game time is set for 3:00. These two teams faced off on January 9 in Price, with Pinnacle coming away with the 53-44 win. Altamont closed out the season 3-16 overall and an 0-10 region mark. The winner of this contest will face the No. 1 overall seed Rich (17-4) on Wednesday, February 28 at 1:00 at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield. A win against Rich would put them in the contest with the winner of the Milford/Green River matchup. A loss puts them against the loser of the same game.

The Lady Panthers closed out the regular season 9-13 overall and 0-6 in region play, they landed in the No. 16 spot as well.

They will face the Tintic Miners on Saturday at Pinnacle starting at 1:00. A win would send them to take on No. 1 Monument Valley (19-1) at Richfield High School on February 28 at 1:00. A win over Monument Valley would put them in a game with the winner of the Manilla/Wayne match-up, a loss to them and they would face the loser of the same game.

Everything will get started this Saturday at Pinnacle High School starting with the girl’s contest at 1:00.
