It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard who was happy to report on the last commission meeting, highlight the human resource department and share details about the Inland Port Authority. Castle Country Radio has the opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

There was talk in the last commission meeting about an Event Coordinator position with the county. “So we approved in our commission meeting an Events Coordinator to continue that contract for the next five years. That will be good we’ll continue to have the events that we have and then maybe develop more but always look for events in Emery County if you’re looking for recreation activities,” said Commissioner Leonard. This new position will assist with all Emery County events coming up and moving forward.

Emery High School now has a two-time state wrestling champion, Monty Christiansen and commissioners are going to invite him to their next meeting. “So he’s a two-time state wrestling champion, just way excited, we’re always excited about our state champs in Emery County and want to highlight them. But just a lot of work, a lot of practice, just excited for him and his achievements. We’ll highlight him at the Commission Meeting, give him a high-five and tell him good job,” said Commissioner Leonard.

With every radio interview with Commissioner Leonard, he always takes time to spotlight a department for a job well done. “We want to highlight our HR Department because they do a lot of work and keep everybody on track, especially employees. There are a couple of job openings available right now, if anyone out there listening is interested or know somebody that is,” said Commissioner Leonard. The job descriptions for the employment openings can be found on the Emery County website at https://emerycounty.com/

There was a presentation made to the Commissioners from the Inland Port Authority that looks for land in rural areas for possible economic development projects. “They were able to do a presentation to talk about what they do, how they incentivize businesses to come. So they had a really good presentation, we’ll probably have them on our next commission agenda to talk about a resolution. We are excited to potentially work with them on how we can bring business to Emery County. I think their interest is in Green River with natural gas out there, and land, there’s thin rail. There’s projects that want to come in to the Green River area, so we’re excited about that,” stated Commissioner Leonard.

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
