The Emery Lady Spartans punched their ticket Friday afternoon to the 3A State Championship game on Saturday. In the most exciting game of the afternoon, the No. 5 Lady Spartans knocked off the No. 1 Grantsville Cowboys 43-41.

Emery earned the match-up with Grantsville with the win on Thursday night over Judge Memorial.

Emery knew that they were going to be in a dogfight from the beginning, in fact, the whole first half was a struggle for the Lady Spartans as they committed 21 turnovers. They were outscored 12-7 in the first quarter and came back to score 10 in the second while holding the Cowboys to 10 points in the quarter, and Grantsville took a five-point lead, 22-17 to the locker room at halftime.

Emery turned up the defense in the third, holding Grantsville to eight points in the quarter, taking the lead 32-28, a lead they would never give up in the fourth as both teams scored 11 in the final eight minutes and the Emery Lady Spartans will now head to the 3A State Championship game.

Katelyn  Nielson led Emery with 15, Kali Jensen had eleven. Kenadie Maughn scored seven and made her presence felt on the defensive end when it mattered most.

Emery will now face the Richfield Wildcats, a team they have already faced twice this season in region play, the Lady Spartans came out on the losing end both times.

The game will start at 5:00 pm on Saturday, on KOAL 107.3 FM or 750 AM. The stream will be available at castlecountryradio.com as well as on the Castle Country Radio app.
