In Dec. the Price City Council announced a new Fire Chief, Dave Johnson, who took the place of our beloved Fire Chief Fitzgerald Peterson who passed away due to cancer. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Chief Johnson to get to know him a little bit better.

“So I was born just a couple of blocks from this radio station here is Carbonville, been here all my life. Started at the fire department about 2018, just been in love with it since. I’m just happy to be here and glad for the opportunity be able to serve my community,” stated Fire Chief Johnson. He does have the full faith of the Price City Council who knows that he will do a great job in the position.

There was no hesitation on Chief Johnson’s part when the Fire Chief position became available, as he explains, “So I became Deputy Chief with Fitz so I was able to learn from him and use him for mentor and when the opportunity became about it was no question.” Johnson says that he learned a lot of the ins and outs of the fire department by working closely with Peterson and appreciates that experience.

After just a few short months he’s settling in quite well and has implemented a few changes. “So we were able to get two Deputy Chiefs that will help with the volunteer status. They’re able to take some of the work load off of just one Deputy Chief if I’m out of town or in trainings or meetings or any of that. With the help of the ALG and the Price City Council we was able to actually get some brand new CBAs that just came in; we’re actually training on them as we speak, hopefully they’ll be on the truck in the next week or two,” said Chief Johnson. He appreciates the funding that was given to the Fire Department to obtain the new equipment.

Residents that don’t know Fire Chief Dave Johnson are urged to introduce themselves when they see him and welcome him to Price City.
