Carbon Caring for Kids is preparing for a long school holiday with Spring Break coming up and they are in need of 185 meal kit donations. Coordinator, Marcie Loveless took time to come into Castle Country Radio to talk about the “meal kits” that are needed for Spring Break.
“We love to have a different approach for Spring Break, Christmas and Thanksgiving they’re a little bit longer weekends so we make them bigger kits. So we’ve created a Sponsorship Program to where everybody can sign up to sponsor a child. It’s usually, depending on the brands per kit it’s between $30.00 to $45.00 usually per kit,” said Loveless. Most of the meal kits are made up of items such as microwavable Chef Boyardees, Tuna/Chicken & Crackers, fruit cups, applesauce pouches/cups, granola bars, individual snacks. Once she posts the lists of food items needed per kit on the Carbon Caring for Kids Facebook page then will you be able to sign up to sponsor a child’s Spring Break meal kit.
After you have purchased the food items needed for the meal kit, you will then drop those items off at the Loveless residence on or before Monday, Mar. 25 at noon. “So you’ll come get the bags at my house or you can build it in regular bags at your house then transfer them over because there are specific bags, that are large grocery bags, they’re really big, and then big enough to be able to have a handles so the kids can take them. Every bag is double bagged just so that the bottom of the bag doesn’t break open when the kids is walking home or taking it,” said Loveless. You can deliver your meal kit items to the Loveless residence at 1551 West Cedar Drive in Price.
In recent months she has had an several individuals, businesses and organizations who have stepped up and made donations towards the cause, as she explains, “It’s been another indicator to me how amazing this community is. Just today I got a text from Lin’s Manager and he said we made all this money for you, what food do you need. So I sent he a bunch of food list items and he’s going to order all of that with the money they earned.” They also received proceeds from the annual Christmas Tree Regalia and other small local organizations.
If you are unable to make a food donation but would like to help with a monetary donation you may do so my Venmo or at Mountain America Credit Union. To keep up to date with what is happening with Carbon Caring for Kids visit their Facebook page.
