Carbon Dino baseball was back on the diamond on Tuesday when they traveled to Vernal to face the 4A Uintah Utes.  Carbon was a little rusty in their return having trouble at the plate only earning three hits, dropping the contest to the Utes 9-0.

The Dinos are coming off a fairly successful season ending the 2023 campaign at 19-7 and 11-1 in regional play, falling to Juab and then Juan Diego (the two teams that would play for the state championship) to end their season.

The Dinos went three up and three down in the first inning. Moving into the second, Michael Vigil came up to the plate to start the inning smacking a double into center, which was the only multi-base hit for the Dinos in the contest. Uintah would come up in the bottom half of the inning and put up four runs to take a 4-0 lead into the third.

The Dinos came out in the top of the third and with one out, Diego Vega hit a grounder to short for a single, and then with two outs, Maizen Prichard stepped up with another single to the shortstop advancing Vega. Uintah added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth pushing the score to 9-0 and that’s where it would remain as the Utes handed the Dinos their first loss of the season.

On the mound for the Dinos, Stockton Kennedy got the start going 1.1 innings, giving up four runs, all earned, on three hits and striking out two. Tyrus Madsen went 1.2, surrendering four runs, all earned, on five hits, striking out one. Maddex Willson, entered the game putting in two innings of work, giving up one earned run and a pair of hits while striking out one, and Jaxon Ingram pitched one inning giving up one hit and striking out two.

The Dinos return to the field on Friday when they travel to Moab to face the Grand Red Devils, in the first of back-to-back games, as the Red Devils will travel to Price on Saturday to take on the Dinos.

Game time on Saturday is set for noon.
