Cami Carlson has stepped down as head coach of the Carbon High School girls’ basketball program, it was announced Thursday afternoon by athletic director Ted Bianco.
“Cami has been an extremely successful coach over eight seasons during two stints,” said Bianco. “We are very sad to see her step away. She has had a very strong impact on her athletes, and she is going to be very missed.”
The announcement marks the end of Carlson’s second run as head coach of the program. Leading the team for a combined eight seasons, Carlson finishes with 137 wins, two region championships and one state championship appearance.
During her first stint as head coach, Carlson accumulated a record of 88-30 in five seasons. In 2011 the Lady Dinos won the region title and advanced to the 3A State Championship, falling short of the ultimate goal in a loss to Emery.
Carlson resigned before the start of the next basketball season to fulfill other professional duties. She returned to the sidelines as an assistant coach at Carbon for Jared Butler, leading the boy’s junior varsity team from 2019-2021.
Carlson once again stepped in as the girls’ basketball coach following Bianco’s resignation in 2021.
Carbon continued the role as an elite team in the 3A classification. During Carlson’s second stint the Lady Dinos finished 49-25, advanced to the 3A state semifinals twice and earned a co-region championship in 2022-23.
Carbon High School will look to fill the head coaching vacancy soon. The job is currently open for those interested and more information can be found HERE.
