Greg Todd, the Utah Office of Energy Development director, has announced his retirement. Todd will remain in his role while the Utah Department of Natural Resources conducts a nationwide search for his replacement. DNR hopes to have a new OED director in place by May.

“It is with equal measures of gratitude and sadness that we announce Greg’s retirement,” said Joel Ferry, DNR executive director. “Greg’s extensive experience in both energy and public service has been an asset as we’ve worked to shape the direction of Utah’s energy future.”

Since his appointment in August 2022, Todd has shepherded the office through an audit, overseen the hiring of key positions and helped shape Utah’s energy policy, ensuring the state has reliable, affordable and adequate energy for years to come. His stabilizing leadership positioned the office to exceed the expectations of the audit and assume its role as a critical resource for policymakers.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to be part of DNR and lead the talented and dedicated team at OED – a real once-in-a-lifetime role,” said Todd. “When I joined the office 18 months ago, I was joining the team as a transitional leader. Now is the perfect time for a change: OED is set up for an amazing future and is fully ready to implement the state energy plan, and the state has a clear vision for its energy future.”

Before his time as director of OED, Todd served as a Duchesne County Commissioner for over seven years. Before entering public service, Todd had a career in the oil and gas industry and worked across the country, including roles as a corporate sales representative for RN Industries, area manager for Nabor Well Service, operations superintendent for Pool Well Service, and rig supervisor for Western Oil Well.
