Emery Spartan baseball was back on the field on Monday to face the Uintah Utes in Castle Dale for the home opener.  Uintah scored all of their runs in the first inning and their defense held the Spartans to four runs, as the Utes handed Emery their third loss of the young season 7-4

The Spartans returned from St. George last weekend after taking part in the Pinveiw Tournament. Emery went 2-2 over the two days.

Uintah jumped out in the first inning putting up seven total runs and causing a pitching change for the Spartans in the process. Gavin Bernard who would take the loss for  Emery was replaced by Garrett Conover.

In the bottom of the fifth, after Mason Stilson would drive in Trevin Gilbert to score Emery’s first run. With one out and Wade Stilson at the plate, Mason Stilson would score off of an error by the third basemen, then Wade Stilson would send a sacrifice fly to right that would allow Hayden Christiansen to cross home plate and make the score 7-3.

Wade Stilson came back up in the bottom of the seventh and sent a grounder to second base and reached after an error by the second basemen that also allowed Mason Stilson to score, moving the score to 7-4.

Gilbert added three hits and a run scored, Mason Stilson added a pair of hits with two runs and an RBI.

Bernard went 0.1 innings surrendering seven runs, six earned, on three hits and striking out one. Conover went 5.2 innings giving up one hit and striking out seven, Mason Stilson came into the contest putting in one inning of work and giving up one hit.

The Spartans are on the road to face Canyon View in Cedar City.  They will face Canyon View in Castle Dale on Thursday.

Game time is set for 3:00 p.m..
