The annual Millsite “Off” Ice Fishing Tournament is going to be held on Apr. 19 and Apr. 20 at Millsite State Park. This “off-ice” tournament is being held because Millsite was unable to sustain ice this year so the annual ice fishing tournament held in January had to be pushed to the Spring. Castle Country Radio was able to get tournament details from Event Representative, Amanda Leonard.
Tournament officials have implemented some “off-ice” tournament rules for anglers. “We can’t allow boats because the max on Millsite but we are allowing human powered floatation devices, so float tubes, kayaks, small electric motors – you’re okay, that go on those devices. But you have to be able to carry all of it to the lake, we can’t be using the boat ramp with that many vehicles and that many fishers,” stated Leonard. The first tournament is Friday, Apr. 19, and will be a 2-person Team Tournament. The second tournament will be in our regular format on Saturday, Apr. 20.
There will be groups to compete in such as youth, men’s, and women’s categories. “So we’ll still have the Team category on Friday, it’s just longest combined fish for the team. Then Saturday we still have the youth, men’s, and women’s categories and it’s the single longest fish, we go by length,” explained Leonard. Officials will check weight if over 18 inches in case there needs to be a tie breaker.
Registration for Millsite “Off” Ice Fishing Tournament is currently open. “Registration will stay open up and till the week of the tournament which is Apr. 19 and Apr. 20. But if they want the free hoodie they have to register by Apr. 1,” said Leonard. After you register, please be sure to check your email as the event gets closer for updates on fishing reports, check-in locations and times, etc.
This event is sponsored by the Emery County Travel Bureau so all profit goes back into the pot. “One hundred percent of the profit goes back into the tournament. Right now we’re sitting at $25,000.00 in cash, trophies, prizes and hoodies that are ready to be given out to all the participants,” said Leonard. Anglers can register online at https://www.millsiteonice.com/ the cost to participate is $50.00 per person/per day.
