Game 1

USU Eastern softball traveled to Taylorsville, Utah to face the 14th ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins. Utah State Eastern opened up their four game series falling to the Bruins with a final score of 17-4.

Brinley Johnson was a standout for the Lady Eagles, hitting a home run and securing an RBI.  Gia Bruno also made significant contributions with a double, one RBI, and allowing Hadley Howell to score as a pinch runner.

Maddy Jennings brought in two runs with her at-bats, contributing team’s score. Additionally, Paige Herbon managed to get on base with a hit and a walk.

Eastern’s pitching duties were challenging with Addison Hess started for the Eagles not recording an out before giving up 7 runs on 6 hits, and Jenna Thorkelson stepping in to pitch 4 innings, allowing 10 runs (8 earned) on 11 hits.

Game 2

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lady Eagles were outpaced by the Bruins, resulting in a 13-2 defeat. Eastern made an early impact in the first inning with Maddy Jennings delivering a sacrifice fly and another run scored on a passed ball, putting them on the scoreboard with two runs.  Salt Lake quickly pulled ahead wouldnt look back.

Micaela Resler stood out for USU Eastern, leading with two hits in three at-bats and two stolen bases for the team. Jennings contributed with the team’s sole RBI.

Brinley Johnson shouldered the loss after giving up 12 runs on 14 hits over three innings.

Game 3

The following day the Lady Eagles once again faced off against the Bruins.  Eastern managed to narrow the gap, yet still fell short, falling to Salt Lake with a score of 6-5.

Maddy Jennings delivered once again with a home run and two RBI’s, demonstrating her consistent power and impressive batting. Gia Bruno also continued her strong performance on the weekend with two hits and two RBI’s.  Micaela Resler reached base three times and scored twice, setting the stage for the team’s scoring opportunities.  Brinley Johnson added to the team’s offensive efforts with a double.

On the pitching side, Addison Hess pitched just over 6 innings, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits.

Game 4

In the final game of the weekend, the Lady Eagles looked to avoid the series sweep but were unable to overcome Salt Lake’s offense onslaught, falling to the Bruins 15-3.

Brinnley Anderson and Maddy Jennings were the contributors to the Lady Eagle’s offense. Anderson hit an RBI single, and Jennings continued her consistent performance with two hits and an RBI. Gia Bruno also added an RBI to her series contributions.

Eastern’s pitching was challenging, with Brinley Johnson initially taking the mound and surrendering 6 runs on 2 hits to begin the game. Jenna Thorkelson followed, enduring a tough outing by giving up 7 runs (6 earned) on 8 hits in just over 1 inning.  Maddy Jennings was able to step in to provide some stability, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits across 2 innings on the mound.

The Lady Eagles (13-8, 5-7) will return home as they welcome the College of Southern Nevada (9-15, 4-8)  to Price.  The four game series against the Coyotes will begin on Friday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m on the USU Eastern Softball Field.  Fans can watch the games live on the Scenic West Digital Network.
