
Mac C. Sitterud, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on March 18, 2024 peacefully in his home. He was 91.
Mac was born on September 11, 1932 in Orangeville, Utah. He was one of 16 children born to Edna Stilson and Jesse R. Sitterud.
He married Mary Marie McElprang on July 12, 1958. Later Solemnized in the Manti Temple on July 5, 1963.
On May 21, 1951 Mac joined the US Navy and spent four years aboard the USS Floyds Bay and various other ships as a mechanic during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return from the Navy, he spent the next 27 years working construction and in the various coal mines in Carbon and Emery Counties.
In 1982, he started his own business, Mac’s Mining Repair Service, Inc. He was an exceptionally hard worker and with the help of his wife, sons, and daughter he built up a reputable business serving Utah and the surrounding States, repairing and fabricating underground coal mining equipment.
Upon his retirement from his business in 1996, he and his wife served an LDS mission in the Harrisburg Pennsylvania Mission. He also served in the Manti Temple with his wife for several years.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had many callings throughout the years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Marie McElprang Sitterud; his sons, Lynn (Paulene), Jeffery (Kaye), Daryl Scott, Brent (Gina), all of Huntington, and Shawn (Anita) of Cleveland; daughter, Suzanne (Michael) Bass, of Huntington; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Phyllis May, Sue Johnson, Connie Jones, and Colleen DeFriez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse R. and Edna Stilson Sitterud; his in-laws, Elven and Beulah Ungerman McElprang; brothers, LaVar, Raymond, Neldon, and infant brother, Clyde Sitterud; sisters, Bessie McArthur, Selma Tuttle, Ruth Cox, Karen Barton, Sally Ryan, Velda Crumply, and infant sister, Elva Sitterud; and infant granddaughter, Stephanie Sitterud and infant grandson, Thomas Rhett Bass.
Funeral service, Friday, March 22, 2024, 11:00 a.m., Huntington Stake Center (240 North Main Street) in Huntington. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service both at the Stake Center in Huntington. Burial will follow in the Huntington City Cemetery.
