Carbon track and field headed out on the road to compete in the San Juan County Championships on Saturday. The Lady Dinos captured the top spot while on the boy’s side, Carbon finished in second.

The host team San Juan earned the top spot on the boy’s side scoring 221 points, the Dinos were right behind at 217. Monticello, Whitehorse, and Pinnacle rounded out the top five.

Riley Palmer got it going for the Dinos with his first place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in his time of 18.64, Carter Branch finished second, Jared Bryson fourth, and Brad Sweeney fifth. Easton Humes turned in another top performance with a time of 52.09 in the 400, and fellow Dinos Tanner Harker and Jaxson Jewkes finished in third and fourth place respectively. In the 1600, Dallin Humes earned first place turning in his time of 5:04.78, Michael Weber finished in third. Sweeney earned a second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles, followed by Branch in third. Easton and Dallin Humes went two and three in the 800 for the Dinos as well. Weber and Bracken Hanson ended the 3200 in third place and fifth place, and Maxwell Carlson grabbed fourth in the 200.

The Carbon boys would grab one more first-place finish in the 4×400 with a time of 3:41.23 behind the team of Sweeney, Dallin Humes, Carlson, and Easton Humes. Carbon would also get a second-place finish with the team of Cesar Mondaca Valenzuela, Traxton Jewkes, Benjamin Simms, and Ethan Prettyman in the 4×100.

The Dinos would place well in field events as well with Traxton Jewkes earning a second-place finish in the javelin followed by Breydan Jensen in third. Jewkes also took second on the high jump followed by Branch in third and Carlson in fourth. In the shot put, Valyn Unsworth finished in third and Cedric Johnson claimed fourth place in the discus.

The Lady Dinos ran away with first place scoring 344 points, host San Juan was a distant second with 99. Monticello, Green River, and Whitehorse comprised the rest of the top five.

The Lady Dinos captured 11 first place finishes at the meet, including both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. In the 4×100 the team of Jordan Shorts, Brooklyn Lowe, Amiah Timothy, and Blythe Bradford crossed the finish line with a time of 52.28. In the 4×400, Josie Jespersen, Sophia Taylor, Gianna White, and Rozlyn Stowe finished first at 4:27.04.

Individual events were kind to the Lady Dinos as well with Lowe earning a first place finish in the 100 turning in a time of 13.68, Bradford, Mia Crompton, Timothy, and Shorts all rounded out the top five in the race. Jespersen earned a first place finish in the 100-meter hurdles turning in her time of 18.73, fellow Dinos Camryn Frandsen and Allena Ison went two and three. In the 200, Lowe took the top spot with her time of 28.60, Crompton, Bradford, and Rebecca Swasey made up the rest of the top four finishes.

It was another Dino top finish in the 300-meter hurdles with Frandsen’s time of 56.71, Ella Anderson finished third, and Ison fourth.

Distances were very favorable to Carbon as well, with White getting things started in the 400 with her time of 1:04.65, Swasey and Jespersen finished two and three. In the 800, Stowe finished with a time of 2:20.44, Taylor and Ada Bradford went two and three, with Maggie Truman coming in fifth. Taylor claimed victory in the 1600 with her time of 6:03.24, Alexandra Bryner was third and Hanson fourth. Stowe was back on top for the 3200 crossing the line in a time of 11:14.38, and Bryner and Hanson finished in second and third.

Field events were kind to the Lady Dinos with Timothy earning the top spot in the long jump with 15 7.75. Carbon would claim the top five as Blythe Bradford, Shorts, Lily Peterson, and Swasey finished two through five. Timothy would also claim second in the high jump, with Emily Dufour third and Bailey Johnson fourth.

Swasey claimed a second place finish in the javelin followed by McKenzie Matthews in third and Janyssa Wadley in fourth. Johnson earned fourth place finishes in the shot put and discus as well.

The Dinos are back on the road this weekend when they will travel to Roosevelt for the Strata Invitational at Union High School
