baseballs-3

The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) released their initial rankings for 3A baseball Monday morning, And the Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans each earned a spot in the top five.

For most sports, the UHSAA releases their RPI rankings, which are mathematically created based on the following formula- (45% x MWP) + (45% x OWP) + (10% x OOWP)

  • MWP (Modified Winning Percentage): Divide the number of possible points by the number of total available points from games played accounting for the adjustment between classifications.
  • OWP (Opponents Winning Percentage): Average of the winning percentage of a team’s opponents (Note: this is not calculated via the combined record of the opponents, but rather by averaging the winning percentage of the opponents).
  • OOWP (Opponents’ Opponents Winning Percentage: The same process as OWP except the calculation is with the opponents of the team’s opponent.

The Grantsville Cowboys earned the top spot with an RPI number of .803277. The Canyon View Falcons are in second with .642065, Carbon sits at No. 3 at .630620, Juab No. 4 with .612855, and Emery in fifth with .590378. Spots two through five all are members of Region 12.
