010-7

Carbon Dino baseball was on the diamond on Tuesday in Cedar City for a region contest with Canyon View.  The Dinos had the No. 3 spot in the RPI rankings that came out on Monday, and in their first outing after the release they faced the Falcons it was a close contest but Canyon View came out on top 4-3.

The loss puts Carbon’s overall record at 9-4 and it also puts the first region loss on the Dinos record at 4-1, and it cost them one spot in the RPI as they slid to No. 4.

The contest was a low-scoring affair with runs at a premium. The Dinos got the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Cameron Vasquez stepped up to the plate sending a single to right field, due to an error, Maizen Prichard would score. The offense for the Dinos would then stall until the top of the sixth.

In the top of the sixth inning, with the score 4-1, the Dinos would mount a rally. The first batter was Jace Barlow and he sent one over the center field fence for a solo shot to push the score to 4-2. Later in the inning with two outs, Rydge Butler sent a single to left giving Tyrus Madsen the chance to score and cut the Falcon lead to 4-3 and that would be as close as the Dinos would get, falling to 9-4 on the season.

Barlow had a pair of hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Butler earned one hit and an RBI. Prichard had two hits and one run scored and Molinar also added one hit in the loss.

Michael Vigil got the start on the mound taking the loss after four innings of work, surrendering seven hits, and four earned runs. Jaxon Ingram went two innings giving up a hit.

The Dinos head back to the diamond on Thursday when they will welcome Canyon View to Price.
