Taylor Brower has been hired as the new head coach of the Carbon High School boy’s basketball program; it was announced by athletic director Ted Bianco.
Brower, a Wyoming native, has been a teacher at Carbon High School since 2017. Since arriving in the county Brower has developed an extensive resume’, coaching at Carbon, Pinnacle, Helper Middle School and USU Eastern.
“It means a lot to get this opportunity to lead the Carbon program,” said Brower Wednesday on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports. “I’ve been playing basketball since I was in the second grade, and I always knew at some point I would be a coach. I’ve put a lot of work in, my family has sacrificed, and my wife has been so supportive over the years. So, to have that validation of putting in the work and it’s coming to fruition is super exciting.”
For the past four seasons Brower has been the top assistant under Ray Jones for the Pinnacle Panthers. The four-year stretch has been the most successful in the program’s history and includes a region championship.
“Ray has worked so hard to build that program and last year we won a region title, which exceeded everyone’s expectations,” said Brower. “I’m sad to leave Pinnacle and the kids, but I’m excited to be at Carbon and help build this program. I’ve always been about Carbon, and I’ve always wanted their athletic programs to do well.”
Upon arriving at Carbon High School in 2017, Brower joined the boy’s basketball program as an assistant under former head coach Kyle Wilson. He also served as an assistant on the football field under former coaches Josh Huntsman and Phil Howa.
Brower’s most recent head coaching stint came at the middle school level leading Helper’s football team for multiple seasons.
Brower will take over for former head coach Jared Butler, who resigned in March after five seasons. Butler led the program to one of its most successful seasons in school history with a trip to the 3A state tournament in 2021.
“This program has had some great coaches in the past and so the opportunity to come in and take the program to the next level is exciting,” Brower said. “The appeal has always been there and I’m just grateful to be in this situation now.”
The next step for Brower will be to fill out his assistant coaching staff and implement a summer schedule for the basketball team. The application window to apply for an assistant role is currently open, with a closing date set for Friday, April 5.
