Lady Spartan softball traveled to Manti on Friday afternoon for a region contest. Emery was coming off a loss on March 29 against North Sanpete. In the game with Manti, the Lady Spartans held the lead early, but a big fifth inning from the Templars propelled them to the 7-6 victory.

The loss moves Emery to 10-3 overall this season, and 6-2 in Region 12 play. The Spartans hold the No. 2 spot in the RPI with 0.695575, mere points ahead of fellow region member Juab at 0.690674.

The Lady Spartans jumped out to a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the second, putting up two runs in the inning when Alexis Ungerman hit a double that allowed Kali Jensen to score from second.

In the third, the Templars put five runs on the board taking the 5-3 lead. Emery came fighting back in the fifth when Rheagan Rhoten hit a double to bring in Madi Bunnell to cut the Manti lead to 7-4. Three batters later, with Kallee Lake at the plate and one out, Jensen would get caught stealing, and due to an error on the second basemen Morgan Luke would come home bringing the score to 7-5. Shannon Johnson scored one run from a Katelyn Nielson double in the top of the seventh, but the 7-6 total was as close as the Lady Spartans could get.

Jensen would end the day with three hits and a run scored. Nielson, Johnson, and Brooklynn Ekker would each collect two hits and one RBI. Bunnell would collect two hits and one run scored in the loss.

Rhoten got the start in the circle taking the loss going three innings giving up nine hits seven runs, four earned, and striking out three. Lake came in going three and surrendered two hits but collected six strikeouts.

Next up for the Lady Spartans is a trip to Price to take on the No. 7 Carbon Dinos.
