It’s time for another Huntington City update with Mayor Leonard Norton who took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss city clean up, open burn season, and construction projects.

Our area has seen some warmer temperatures during the week which has allowed some folks to use the time to work in their yards, so the city is willing to help those folks out with the disposal of limbs and branches. “We come around once or twice a week depending on how many we have out. You put your limbs out on the curb, we will pick them up. I think we do that through the end of April and then after that you’ll have to take the limbs out to the dump yourself,” said Mayor Norton. The city offers this service to residents to help in the annual city’s Spring Cleanup efforts.

Those that wish to burn limbs, branches or weeds need to obtain a Burn Permit from City Hall. “Its open burn season, all you have to do is either call City Hall or get on our website and apply and get you a little burn permit, no cost. We just want you to let us know what you’re doing, what kind of burn so that nobody calls the Fire Department on you, and have them come out and put out the fire for you,” said Mayor Norton. This just gives the city notice so that they can let law enforcement/fire officials know that there will be permitted fires in the area.

Spring like conditions always means its time for construction projects to begin and that is no different for Huntington City. “You know we got a few sidewalk projects going right now. A couple projects out at the rodeo grounds, getting our horseshoe pits and cornhole pits going, and a little fire area that you can have a little fire if you want. Also, this summer we’re putting some new lights in our rodeo grounds, and we got a waterline project that feeds the city that we’re going to start replacing,” stated Mayor Norton. This is just a few projects the city will be working on this Spring and Summer. The city appreciates the patience the residents have shown workers as they work on the construction projects.

The city is currently working on their annual Heritage Days Celebration that begins the end of June. “It’s getting that time again for Heritage Days we’ll start with our rodeo on June 28 and June 29 – it’s the weekend before the Fourth of July. Then the July 4 will be on the Thursday, and we’ll have some activities Wednesday and Thursday. We have a concert, fireworks, and our entertainment throughout those two days. So everybody mark on your calendars and get ready to come and have a good time,” said Mayor Norton. All of the festivities will again take place at the Middle School Football Field.
