On Wednesday, the Carbon Lady Dino softball team made the trip to Nephi to face the Juab Wasps. Carbon was leading 11-2 heading into the seventh inning and they seemed to find another gear adding seven more runs and taking the 18-2 win.

The Dinos moved their overall record to 8-5 and are now 6-1 in Region 12 play. They also hold the No. 5 spot in the RPI, which will be important with just 20 days left in the regular season.

Early on neither team pushed the issue as the contest was scoreless going into the third. Danica Adams stepped up to the plate with two on and two outs and sent a single to second bringing in Brielle Sandoval and Taylor Secor to push the score to 3-0. The Lady Dinos added three more in the fourth and Juab would add one of their own to bring the score to 6-1 going into the fifth.

In the top of the inning with two outs and a runner on Adri Abeyta stepped up to the plate and hit one over the left field wall bringing home Shayla Penovich, as Carbon took an 8-2 lead. Penovich would add a pair of RBIs in the sixth when she drove in Samanth Riddle and Adams. Juab would add one run in the bottom of the inning, but Carbon still held the 11-2 advantage headed to the seventh.

Late in the top of the inning, with the score at 15-2 and with two outs on the scoreboard, Sandoval sent a high fly ball to right field, which gave Sage Vea and Penovich time to cross the plate, the Lady Dinos added one more and then held the Wasps scoreless in the bottom of the seventh going three up and three down to take the 18-2 win.

Secor came up huge for Carbon with five hits, three runs scored, and an RBI. Sandoval and Abeyta would share the same stat line with three hits, three runs scored, and three RBIs, . Brailee Peterson had three hits, three RBIs, and scored one. Kylan Sorenson and Adams also collected three hits each for the Lady Dinos.

Adams earned the complete game win giving up just one hit, and two runs. She also fanned eleven batters.

Next up for Carbon is another road trip on Thursday to Richfield.
