005-9

Spartans soccer traveled to Richfield on Wednesday to face the Wildcats. When these schools get together, regardless of the sport, it’s always a competitive contest, and this one was no different. In the end, though the Spartans came up one goal short taking the 2-1 loss.

Emery is sitting at 4-8 this season overall and in Region 12 play. The removal of the RPI rankings means that the end of the season is right around the corner, and the playoffs start soon.

The teams came out in the first half, and the Wildcats were able to get one passed the Spartans taking a 1-0 lead to halftime. In the second half. the Spartans were able to get a goal on the board from the foot of Rhett Winter, but Richfield was able to get one more on the board to get their first victory of the season 2-1.

The final RPI will be released on April 24 as will the bracket for the 3A State Championships. The opening rounds start at home sites on April 26, with the Championship game taking place on May 11 at America First Field the home of Real Salt Lake.

The Spartans have just a pair of games left this season and will get underway on Friday when the Carbon Dinos make the trip to Castle Dale. Earlier the season when the two teams met in Price, the Dinos handed the Spartans a 4-0 loss.

Game time is set for 4:00 p.m., and since this is the final home game of the regular season, Emery will be celebrating their seniors.
