This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines a light on the Carbon High School so Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Principal Jared Hardy who shared information about what is taking place at the school.

In order to be a successful student you have to attend school regularly and this year’s attendance has been remarkable. “You know coming out of COVID we still kind of fighting coming out of that. Last year our attendance was about 83 percent, and right now, our attendance is at 91 percent. So the kids are coming back, they’re getting in the classrooms, and the success is starting to show,” said Principal Hardy. He appreciates the efforts of students, as well as their parents who are making sure their students are getting to school daily.

The school just finished up with the third quarter and are very pleased with the number of honor roll recipients this quarter. “So right now third quarter honor roll we had 61 percent of the school was on the honor roll. You know 62 percent of them were freshman, 61 percent of the sophomore were on the honor roll, 56 percent of juniors were on the honor roll, and 66 percent of seniors, so more than half of each grade is on the honor roll, which is fantastic,” stated Principal Hardy. Generally, the percentage of honor roll students declines third quarter because of burnout and/or Spring Fever but that was not the case this year. Students are finding regular attendance and in-person instruction to be the best method of learning and its shows academically.

Freshmen and sophomore students will begin end of the year testing starting next week. “Starting next Tuesday, the freshmen and sophomores will start their state testing. They’ll test in their CORE Classes, so we’ll have an altered schedule next week where everybody will stay in their classes just for a longer period while the students test,” explained Principal Hardy. Attendance is very important during testing days.

This is the last radio interview with Carbon High this school year and Castle Country Radio asked Principal Hardy to reflect on what stands out most this 2023-2024 school year. He said, “Just the academic success our students have had this year is amazing, and its all due to their hard work and their commitment to being successful.” He hopes all of the students will continue to finish strong this fourth quarter as it will come to end in May.
