
Every track and field season, one regional school hosts the Eastern Utah Championships. Last weekend it was held at Carbon High, with 11 boy’s teams and 13 girl’s teams, the eastern side of the state was covered. The Lady Dinos earned a second-place finish and the boys were able to grab fifth.
Union earned the top spot in the boy’s division, earning 181 points, and Uintah finished in second with 110. San Juan, Emery, and Carbon comprised the rest of the top five.
Distances, relays, and field events were where the Carbon boys earned their points. In the 400 Easton Humes claimed second place, and earned a fourth-place finish in the 800.
The Carbon team of Tanner Harker, Maxwell Carlson, Humes, and Evan Criddle ran to a second-place finish in the sprint relay. Brad Sweeney, Criddle, Carlson, and Humes earned a second-place finish in the 4×400, and the team of Mario Monari, Kayden Vasquez, Benjamin Simms, and Ethan Prettyman crossed the finish in fourth in the 4×100.
In the high jump, Traxton Jewkes jumped to a second-place finish and Carter Branch ended in fourth.
Uintah claimed the top spot in the girl’s division with 148.50 points, the Lady Dinos finished second with 130.5. Union, Emery, and Duchesne made up the rest of the top five.
Relays were kind as always for Carbon, in the 4×100 the team of Jordan Shorts, Brooklyn Lowe, Mia Crompton, and Blythe Bradford finished in first place with a time of 50.44. With a time of 4:20.72 Rebecca Swasey, Sophia Taylor, Blythe Bradford, and Gianna White claimed the top spot in the 4×400, and in the sprint relay, Lisa King, Stella Smith, McKenzie Fredrickson, and Ellie Hanson finished fourth.
Blythe Bradford earned a first-place finish in the long jump, followed by other Dinos Jordan Shorts in second, and Amiah Timothy in third. Emily Dufour claimed a fourth-place finish in the high jump.
White also earned a second-place finish in the 400, while Taylor claimed third in the 1600 with Hanson in fourth. Taylor also took fourth in the 800 followed by Ada Bradford in fifth. Hanson would go on to earn fourth in the 3200.
Crompton finished fourth and Blythe Bradford fifth in the 100. Josie Jespersen finished in third in the 100-meter hurdles and McKinlieSharp was right behind in fourth. Swasey would earn a fifth-place finish in the 300 hurdles.
The Dinos will head back to the track on Wednesday when they travel to Emery for the Darrel Gardner Invite.
