James Oscar Anderson, “KA7YIV,” passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024, just four days short of his 83rd birthday. James arrived in this world earlier than expected, born on April 22, 1941 in Denver, Colorado to Ruby May Hopkins and Carl Richard Anderson.

Jim beat the odds, being born two and a half months premature. He spent his childhood working on the family farm in Beryl, Utah. He graduated from Enterprise High School, and later went to college at CSU.

He proved throughout his life that hard work was his hallmark. This started in his youth, helping his parents run a hotel in Colorado, to working on the farm. His career journey was expansive, working in a cafe in Mercury, a lineman on the railroads, an appliance repairman, truck driver, and journeyman mechanic for the local power plants. While working for the power plants, he was given the nickname “Ping.” He retired from the power plant in 1998. However, Jim knew no idle time and continued to work for family members, mainly driving truck. This provided him with unique experiences like delivering the baptismal font to the Nauvoo Temple in Illinois.

Jim was one that would help in any capacity that he could. He could often be found under a hood, elbow deep in a washer, or fixing a sewing machine. He embodied the phrase “service to others.” In the winter, he would blade the snow off driveways, and if something needed fixing, he could almost always return it to you better than before. If Jim couldn’t fix it, it wasn’t worth keeping. He served many roles in the community, from assistant Scoutmaster to a stake position for the LDS Church, utilizing his many skills and talents.

There were many past times and hobbies that Jim enjoyed, one of those being his involvement and connection with the Sinbad Desert Amateur Radio Club, where he was known as “KA7YIV.” He developed many familial bonds with other club members and often attended the events the club held.

Jim always enjoyed talking with whomever would sit and listen, often over a cup of coffee.

Where there was coffee, Jim was there. He loved to talk about everything and anything, from his childhood to what was happening in the world at that time.

Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pamela G. Anderson, whom he married on August 23, 1975. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Glenn Anderson; sister, Marguerite (Kirby) Hamm; daughters, Kimberly (Dan) Hushman, Carla (Jeremy) Wallace; sons, Bryan Anderson, Kenyon (Amanda) Anderson; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Barbee; and parents, Ruby and Carl.
