The United Way of Eastern Utah is currently offering two scholarship opportunities to students wishing to continue their education after high school. Director, Pam Boyd stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss the application process.

The Youth Service Scholarship is open to any high school students living in the United Way’s servicing area of Daggett, Duchesne, Uintah, Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan Counties. “It’s a high school scholarship. What makes ours a little bit unique is it’s not based on financial need or academic excellence or activity involvement, it’s solely rewarded to kids on the basis of community service, which is what United Way is all about. So, we like to reward kids who’ve done something for their community. They just document the work they’ve done and it’s amazing, kids are real creative in how they give back to communities,” said Boyd. United Way of Eastern Utah is pleased to offer up 6 one-time scholarships to high school seniors. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Apr. 30. Anyone interested in applying for the Youth Service Scholarship can speak with their high school counselors. Further information about the scholarship can be found on United Way of Eastern Utah’s website at https://www.uweu.org/

There is also another scholarship opportunity available for students who plan to attend USU Eastern.  “You know last year we had an amazing fundraising year and we were in a position to be able to endow a scholarship. We were approached by USU Eastern and they said we have a matching grant opportunity here, so if you will provide $25,000.00, we will match it at $25,000.00 and provide this scholarship endowment that will exist forever. This again is a community service scholarship which is really on brand for us and it’s available through the USU Eastern portal,” explained Boyd. The deadline to apply for this endowment scholarship is June 1. Further information about this scholarship can be found by visiting the USU Eastern website at https://eastern.usu.edu/

Finally, mark your calendars on Saturday, Aug. 10 for the annual Soles 2 Souls Pop-Up Shoe Shop in Price. “It’s an amazing program, just so grateful to the donors that make that possible. Last year we gave out 1,396 pairs of shoes to school kids,” said Boyd. The pop-up shoe shop was a huge hit with families. The other big event that goes on each year is the Day of Caring and it’s going to be held on Saturday, September 7. Further details on both events will be shared as the events grow closer.
