006-9

The Lady Spartans traveled to Mount Pleasant Tuesday to face the Hawks. Emery was coming off of a two-game win streak, with just a pair of games left before the end of the season, and every game counts. North Sanpete scored in every inning but one, and handed the Spartans their sixth loss this year, 8-2.

Emery sits at 16-6 overall and still holds the No. 1 spot in the latest RPI rankings.

North Sanpete scored in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead that wouldn’t last for long as the Lady Spartans would tie the game up in the top of the second inning when Tailynn Minchey sent a single to short that drove Madi Bunnell home. North Sanpete would go on to add seven more runs over the next five innings, to push their lead to 8-1.

The last attempt for an Emery rally came with two outs and one on in the top of the seventh. Minchey stepped into the batter’s box and on her fourth pitch sent a single to center driving in Kaitlyn Thomas who had entered the game as a courtesy runner for Elli Stoker, to cut the lead to 8-2, but two plays later a ground out at first would end the game, handing North Sanpete the 8-2 win.

Minchey had two hits and two RBIs for the Spartans. Johnson, Stoker, and Ekker each had one hit in the loss.

Kallee Lake got the start in the circle for Emery going 3.0 innings giving up four hits, four earned runs, and three strikeouts. Rheagan Rhoten closed out the game and surrendered two hits, four runs, and striking out two.

The Spartans will be back on the field on Friday when they host the Canyon View Falcons for senior night in the final game of the regular season.

Game time is set for 3:30 p.m..
