Back-to-back wins on Friday and Saturday have put the Carbon Lady Dinos in a position to claim at least a share of the Region 12 championship.
Carbon extended its winning streak to six with a 14-4 win over Juab on Friday and a thrilling 8-7 victory over Canyon View on Saturday. The two wins moved Carbon to 16-10 overall and 11-2 in Region 12 play.
The Lady Dinos started the weekend back-to-back set off with a bang, topping the Juab Wasps in just five innings. Trailing 2-1 entering the fourth, Carbon plated 12 runs in the bottom half of the frame to pull away for good.
Receiving heavy run support, Danica Adams earned the win on the mound as she tossed a complete game. Allowing just six hits during the outing, Adams fanned eight batters and walked just one. The Carbon defense played error free ball behind Adams, keeping the Wasps off balance throughout.
Carbon managed to take advantage of four Juab errors in the fourth inning. As a team the Lady Dinos gathered eight hits in the frame, including a two-run homer from Adri Abeyta.
The Lady Dinos returned to the field Saturday afternoon and used a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a hard-fought 8-7 win over the Canyon View Falcons, sweeping the season set.
Trailing 7-6 and down to their final out, Abeyta came through in a high-pressured situation, lacing a triple to right field. The base hit scored Shayla Penovich and put the game-winning run on third.
Kylan Sorenson erased the possibility of extra innings with a walk off single, scoring Abeyta and giving Carbon the one run win.
Saturday’s victory allows Carbon to remain equal with North Sanpete in the loss column. Carbon can solidify a share of the region crown with a win over Delta Tuesday, regardless of the outcome of North Sanpete’s final two games against Manti and Juab.
Tuesday’s regular season finale against Delta will also serve as Senior Day for Carbon. The five seniors on the team will be honored before the first pitch, which is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
