The Carbon County Fair is hosting a Battle of the Bands competition on May 31 at the Thelma Park Carbon County Fairgrounds as part of the Carbon County Fair weekend celebration. Price City Council Member, Layne Miller and Event Coordinator, Ted Hinckley took time to speak with Castle Country Radio about all the details.
Event organizers when planning the activities for the fair this year thought it would be great to add a Battle of the Bands competition. “When was the last time we’ve had a Battle of the Bands in Carbon County? I can’t remember! So we’re in a meeting, we’re talking about the fair and all that’s going to work. Somebody makes the comment about, if we could pull together some money, we ought to do a Battle of the Bands. I’ve known Ted now for a few years and I sent him a text, do you know anything about Battle of the Bands? And Ted said, I’ve been doing one for five years! So there you go, that’s how it started,” said Miller. There is so much fun when it comes to this type of competition as guests will get a full evening of music by some very talented musicians.
The competition will only allow for five bands to participate in the competition and they will be allowed a 30-minute set. “The great thing about Battle of the Bands is typically you only have about 30 minutes for each band to play. Every band has 30 good minutes, less bands have 60 good minutes, and even less bands have 90 good minutes, but they all have 30 minutes, and that’s how long each band is going to play and so we are seeing their best stuff,” explained Hinckley. Once the winner is announced for the evening, they will again take the stage for an additional 30-minute performance. The categories that the bands will be judged on are audience engagement, appearance, and strength of their set.
If you have a band that would like to participate in the Battle of the Bands you are urged to sign up today on the Carbon County Fair website at www.carbonutahfair.com to reserve one of the five available spots. “Bands have to pay $50.00 to apply. Obviously if you’re not one of the five, you’re going to get your $50.00 back. But then they all get their money back when they show up, it’s a little thing to make sure they show up, they’re going to get their $50.00 back. Every band is going to be paid, we came up with enough money, every band is going to be paid and then the winner gets pretty good money to play the kick-off to Helper Arts,” stated Hinckley. Hinckley hopes that each band leaves having a great experience with the audience.
