015-15

The inaugural volleyball regular season ended for the Carbon Dinos in a straight sets loss to the North Sanpete Hawks Tuesday night at Carbon High School.

Carbon entered Tuesday’s regular season finale needing a win to earn a share of the 3A South Region championship. Despite applying pressure throughout the first two sets with the Hawks, the Dinos were unable to protect home court.

North Sanpete earned a 25-16 victory in the first set. The second set proved to be the most competitive, but again favored the Hawks, 25-23. North Sanpete closed out the evening with a convincing 25-11 win.

Carbon closes out the regular season with a 4-2 mark in region play and a 7-16 record overall. After starting the season 0-8, the Dinos showed marked improvement in the program’s first year, finishing the schedule with seven wins over the final 15 games.

With the regular season now complete, the UHSAA has released the final RPI rankings, setting the stage for the 3A State Tournament, which will take place at Utah Valley University. Carbon earned the No. 8 seed, placing them in a first-round matchup with No. 9 Wasatch Academy on Friday, May 10.

Carbon and Wasatch Academy are no strangers to one another after squaring off twice in the regular season. The Dinos had little issues with Wasatch Academy, winning in straight sets on both occasions. A win for Carbon would place them in the second round against No. 1 Grantsville.
