Maizen Prichard pitched five scoreless innings as the Carbon Dinos earned an 8-5 win over the North Sanpete Hawks in Game 1 of the Super Regionals best-of-three series Thursday afternoon at Carbon High School.
Prichard was once again dominant as he allowed just one hit in five frames, while striking out 11 batters. The Carbon bullpen struggled to close out the game but did just enough to preserve the three-run victory.
The Carbon offense delivered consistency throughout the game as they plated at least one run in each of the six innings. As a team the Dinos out hit the Hawks 9-4 and managed to take advantage of five North Sanpete errors.
Tyrus Madsen finished 3-3 at the plate, adding a walk and one RBI to his afternoon. Cameron Vasquez also recorded multiple hits, finishing 2-4 with one RBI.
Carbon made North Sanpete pitcher Bryson Perry work throughout the game. Perry ended up pitching a complete game but struck out just one of the 36 batters faced, tossing 100 pitches.
The Dinos will now have an opportunity to sweep the best-of-three series Friday afternoon when the two teams meet again in Price at 1:00 p.m. A North Sanpete win would force a decisive Game 3 immediately after. The winner of the series will advance to the 3A state tournament next week at Kearns High School.
