With the spring sports season coming to a close the Utah High School Activities Association released the Academic All-State honors list. Academic All-State gives recognition to those student-athletes who excel not only in the field of play but in the classroom as well.
Cameron Jones was the lone member of the Carbon tennis squad that made the list. Jones and the rest of the team will start post-season play with the Region 12 championships on Tuesday.
The boy’s volleyball team ended regular season play with a 7-16 mark overall and a 4-2 record in region play. The Dinos had four members singled out, Alexis Bueno, Eric Holt, Spencer Hepworth, and Zeke Wilson. The volleyball squad begins first-round play on Friday when they take on Wasatch Academy at Utah Valley University.
Track and field for the Dinos had seven members who were given Academic All-State nods. Five Lady Dinos including Ada Bradford, Allena Ison, Ella Anderson, Lillian Seeley, and Stella Smith received mentions. Easton Hardy and Logan Palmer earned honors for the boys. The Dinos head back to the track for the Region 12 Championship on Wednesday and Thursday.
Each sport and activity season, the UHSAA will open nominations through RegisterMyAthlete. Parents/students will enter their RegisterMyAthlete account and click on the Academic All-State tab to enter their unweighted cumulative high school GPA, and ACT/SAT score, and submit the nomination form. Schools will confirm the student-athlete is a varsity contributor, confirm the GPA and ACT/SAT score, verify the student is a senior, and upload a current transcript before submitting the nomination to the UHSAA by the specified deadline (View deadlines). The Academic All-State award will now be decided by either meeting an index score (View index) or having a 4.0 unweighted GPA.
