
Lady Dino softball was back on the diamond for their second game of the day Thursday to face the Union Cougars. Carbon slipped into the one-loss bracket after falling to Morgan earlier in the day. Taking on the Union Cougars for the second time this season, the Dinos were able to earn an 8-2 win.
Carbon fell in the first game of the day with a 2-1 loss to the Morgan Trojans, dropping them into the one-loss bracket where they faced the Cougars, just a couple of weeks ago these two teams squared off in Price with the Lady Dinos coming away with a 10-4 win.
Union was able to get on the board first putting up a run in the top of the first. Carbon would come back to answer as Danica Adams slapped a double to right field driving in Brielle Sandoval, next batter up Taylor Secor sent a triple to the right fielder to bring Secor home and give the Dinos a 2-1 lead. In the second, Adri Abeyta grounded out to the second baseman giving Shayla Penovich the chance to score giving the Dinos the 3-1 lead.
Going into the bottom of the third with the Dinos still up a Brailee Peterson ground out sent Adams home, and then Samantha Riddle came up to the plate next sending a single to left and driving in Secor. Moving to the bottom of the fourth, Abeyta was the lead-off batter sending a single run shot over the centerfield wall, pushing the score to 5-1.
The Lady Dinos went scoreless in the fifth but added two more runs in the sixth when a Peterson single would drive in Sandoval and Adams, giving the Dinos an 8-1 lead. The Cougars came out in the top of the seventh and could only put up one run, giving Carbon the 8-2 win to advance.
Sandoval gathered a pair of hits and scored two runs for the Lady Dinos, Adams registered two hits, scored three runs, and had an RBI. Secor collected two hits scored a run and had an RBI. Peterson had one hit and earned three RBIs, and Abeyta had one hit, one run scored, and two RBIs in the win.
Kylan Sorenson earned the complete game win surrendering nine hits with two earned runs and striking out three.
The Lady Dinos are back on the field again for the third game of the day to take on Region 12 foe Canyon View. Carbon earned wins in both of their meetings this season.
The contest is set to begin at 7:00 p.m..
