
The Dinos track and field squad traveled to Nephi for the Region 12 Championships that took place on Wednesday, and Thursday. Eight schools from the conference participated and both the boys and the girls finished the event in sixth place.
On the boys’ side, it was host team Juab that took the top spot with 155, Canyon View earned second with 140. Emery, Richfield, and Delta made up the top five with the Dinos right behind in sixth.
For Carbon Easton Humes earned a first-place finish in the 800 turning in his time of 2:02.01, Humes would also take third in the 400.
In the sprint relay, the Dinos earned second with the team of Benjamin Simms, Ethan Prettyman, Maxwell Carlson, and Humes.
Canyon View claimed first for the girl’s division with 156.5 points, Emery finished in second with 113. Richfield and Delta tied for third and North Sanpete rounded out the top five. Carbon finished in sixth.
In individual events, Josie Jespersen finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, Sophia Taylor earned two fourth-place finishes in the 800 and the 1600, and Gianna White earned a fifth-place finish in the 400.
Carbon had three top-three finishes in relays. In the 4×100, Jordan Shorts, Brooklyn Lowe, Mia Crompton, and Blythe Bradford finished in second. In the 4×400, Crompton, Bradford, White, and Taylor earned third place. Lowe, White, Taylor, and Amiah Timothy finished in second in the sprint relay.
The Carbon track and field team heads back to competition on May 16 when they will travel to BYU for the 3A State Championships.
