Lady Dino softball kept the train rolling Thursday night in the 3A State Softball Championships in Spanish Fork. After dropping the first game of the day to Morgan, they won their match-up with Union, earning them a meeting with Canyon View in a game that went late into the evening, with Carbon coming away with the 8-3 win.
Carbon took the loss in game one on Thursday by a tough 2-1 margin against the Morgan Trojans, dropping the Lady Dinos into the one-loss bracket. In game two they faced Union and were able to capture an 8-2 win, moving them to the next game that was scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday taking on the Canyon View Falcons.
Canyon View jumped on the board putting up a pair of runs in the top of the first inning taking the early lead. Carbon came up in the bottom of the second and was able to earn one run when Samantha Riddle sent a double to left field scoring Taylor Secor from second, and putting the score at 2-1. The Lady Dinos would go quiet for the next couple of innings and with the score 3-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth it was time to go to work.
With one out Brielle Sandoval sent a hard grounder to the second basemen driving in both Shayla Penovich and Aleece Ardohain to tie the score up at 3-3. Two batters later Secor stepped in and after looking at ball one sent a pop fly single to left field and brought home Kylan Sorenson and Sandoval to give Carbon the 5-3 lead. With two outs and two on Riddle would step up to the plate again sending a single to center bringing Sienna Alderson home and pushing the score to 6-3. The next batter up Penovich, would send a single of her own to center driving in Secor. Adams would get an RBI in the sixth with a double to right that would bring in Sorenson to put the score at 8-3, then all it took was three outs in the top of the seventh for the Dinos to claim the win and advance.
