The Carbon tennis team is coming up on Thursday’s first round of the 3A State Championships at Brighton High School. A win on Thursday will get you invited to the finals at Liberty Park on Friday and Saturday. The opening round pairings are now available and everyone knows who they will face on day one.
Carbon finished the regular season 9-11 overall and posted a 5-8 record in region play, and are coming off a fifth-place finish at the Region 12 tournament last week.
Nicholas Bryner will go against a familiar face in his opening-round match with Delta’s Ethan Oman. In their three meetings this season Bryner is a perfect 3-0. In the second singles match Carbon’s Memphis Howell will square up with Cooper Potts from Grand, and in the third singles match Cameron Jones will take on Dax Helsten from Morgan.
In first doubles, Zander Carrillo and Josiah Trostle will take on Carter Johnston and James Gay from South Sevier, and the third doubles team of Judson Varner and Carter Abbott will face Eli Gulbrandsen and Asher Rosenthal of Maeser Preparatory Academy.
All matches will begin on Thursday morning at 9:00, if they win they will advance to the next round on Friday at Liberty Park.
