The Castle Valley Archaeological Society (CVAS) is hosting its last meeting of the 2023-24 season on Thursday, May 23, at 7 p.m. in the Don Burge Classroom at the Utah State University Eastern Prehistoric Museum.

Chris Merritt from the Utah State Historic Preservation Office will speak at the event. Merrit, who received a Ph.D. from the University of Montana in Anthropology, will present on Chinese railroad worker archaeology in Utah.

The presentation will include real artifacts from recent excavations in Terrace, Utah, and share the findings made on the lives of Chinese railroad workers who helped shape not only Utah’s infrastructure but also its history.

This is one of the last chances for the public to see these items before they move to the state Capitol in the new Museum of Utah, which opens in 2026.
