Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Murleen Bean (Ockey) left this world on May 14, 2024. She was born into the loving home of Ira LeRoy and Lenna Ockey on October 3, 1939.
She married her darling, Charles Vern Bean, on November 30, 1964. When they married, she not only gained a husband but seven bonus children. When asked how Charlie told her how many kids he had, she always smiled and said, “A few at a time.” They blended a family to create many happy memories and a home filled with love.
Murleen was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had several church callings over the years, many involving her love of music. Her most precious calling, however, was the 13+ years that she worked at the Manti Temple. With each surgery, illness, or accident that befell her, the first question she always asked her doctors was, “When can I get back to the temple?” Her love of this calling motivated her to get well to continue the work that she was doing.
She was employed as the Orangeville City Recorder for 25 years. She earned the distinction of being a certified municipal clerk. She loved Orangeville and dedicated her time to making the city better. She was instrumental in obtaining many state and federal grants for city improvement projects. Prior to working for Orangeville City, she spent many years as a clerk at Magnuson Lumber.
She was an avid gardener and loved to spend time each fall canning the vegetables and fruits that she grew. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and quilting. Her family has benefited from her hobbies.
She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary.
Murleen is survived by her daughter, Karen (Gray) Griffin; daughters, Sally (Thomas) Sullivan and Susan (James) Humphrey; sons, Michael Bean and Gary (Robbin) Bean; as well as a daughter-in-law, Mollie Bean. She is also survived by her devoted brother, Royal Ockey; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, beloved nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sons, David Bean, Patrick Bean, and Matthew Bean; and brother, Keith Ockey.
The family wishes to thank Sandy Jensen and Mandie Bennett of Symbii for their compassionate care over the past several months. We also thank the extended family of the Orangeville Second Ward for the many, many years of support and assistance they have provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Heart Association or the Orangeville Second Ward Missionary Fund.
