Castle Country Radio sat down with longtime educator and Emery County School Board candidate Neal Peacock. In our conversation, Peacock touched on the importance of lifelong learning and discussed the platform for his school board run.

Opening the interview, we discussed his career in education, which spanned 38 years, and what inspired him to start his adult history class, Neal’s History Hub. “I noticed that lots of people stop learning after high school or they struggle to get it on their own, so I started Neal’s History Hub. It’s been fun having people learning for the sake of learning,” said Peacock.

Peacock continued building on this idea, stating,” My goal has been to promote continuous learning through adulthood. And I really think that should be the measure for most of our classes … we should be asking ourselves if we are teaching so they love the subject the rest of their life.”

Next, we touched on what’s coming up for the class and what the plan is once they reach the modern age. “ We’re not trying to cover history; we’re trying to uncover history.” Peacock continued,” If there is something people would rather have me focus on or go a little more in-depth, we stop, and we go into depth.” Peacock explained how the farthest the American History class will go is to Sept. 11, 2001.” I feel that history needs some space before you can really analyze it and study it. We ought to be 25 years away from something before we begin to examine it.”

Our penultimate topic with Peacock was his run for Emery County School Board.” I believe in term limits, but the government won’t limit themselves … So I think that if we are going to limit terms, it has to be the people who do it.”

In closing, Peacock shared,” It doesn’t matter what profession you are, what you’ve decided to be in life, what you’ve chosen; be a lifelong learner, don’t stop learning.”
