
A day after the Carbon Dino boy’s tennis squad made their way out of the opening round of the 3A State Championships, the season came to an end with all players falling in the round of 16 that was held at Liberty Park in Salt Lake that started Friday.
On Thursday at Brighton High School, the round of 32 began with all members of the Dino squad advancing to the round of 16 on Friday as the venue moved to Liberty Park.
Coming off of his straight-set win over Ethan Oman of Delta, Nicholas Bryner dropped his match against Waterford’s Kiran Reddy 6-1 and 6-2. In second singles, Memphis Howell faced off with Judge Memorial’s Aman Tuteja, with Tuteja earning a straight-set win 6-0, and 6-2.
Third singles player Cameron Jones had a battle on his hands in the round of 16 after coming off a marathon match in the opening round. In his match Friday against Waterford’s Rowan Hodell, Jones went three sets dropping the first 6-0. Jones came back in the second set to take a 7-6 win in a 7-1 tiebreak, but Jones would drop the third set and the match 6-2.
In first doubles, Zander Carrillo and Josiah Trostle ran up against Rowland Hall’s Will Damico and Duke O’Neil falling in straight sets 6-1, and 6-0. Damico and O’Neil went on to finish second in the class.
Judson Varner and Carter Abbot squared up with Richfield’s James Peschon and Ari Julusoon, falling in two sets 6-3 and 6-1.
