The Emery track and field squad got things started in March at the Farm Bureau Invitational at Carbon, and just put the season to bed on May 19 at the State Championships at Brigham Young University. They had plenty of successes throughout the season.

Below is a recap of the meets from this season.

March 16- Farm Bureau Invitational

The track season for the Spartans got underway on Saturday at the Farm Bureau Invitational in Price. Braving the cold March weather 20 total teams from around the state took part in the meet. The Lady Spartans tied for first with North Sevier and the boys landed in fourth.

North Sevier and Emery tied atop the girls’ leaderboard with 87 points. Union, Carbon, and Manti comprised the remaining top five.

Addie Hurst earned a first-place finish in the 3200 turning in her time of 12:53.46, she would also finish fifth in the 1600. Skylee Guymon earned a second-place finish in the 200 and third in the 100 hurdles. In the 300 hurdles, Kabree Gordon finished in third, she earned a fourth-place finish in the long jump. Addy Guymon finished in third in the 800, with Melody Lake in fifth, Guymon earned a fourth in the 1600, just behind teammate Gentry Christiansen who finished in third.  Megan Stilson claimed fourth in the high jump.

In relays, the Lady Spartans came in first in the 4×400 relay as they turned in a time of 4:18.90. They also finished third in the sprint relay.

For the boys, Juab claimed the top spot scoring 132 points. Union finished second with 99. Uintah, Emery, and Carbon made up the rest of the top five.

Camden Larsen earned a first-place finish by turning in a time of 4:40.51 in the 1600. Matthew Larsen earned two top-five finishes in the 110 hurdles taking third, and a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles, Olsen also claimed a third-place finish in the high jump. Jack Christiansen finished third in the 400.

The Spartans will get back on the track Friday and Saturday when they will travel to the Pine View Invitational.

April 12- Juab Invitational

The Emery boy’s and girl’s track teams traveled to Nephi to take part in the Juab Invitational. Both teams had a fairly successful meet claiming third-place finishes.

The host Juab Wasps earned the top spot for the boys with 198.5 points. Canyon View came in second scoring 158. Emery and Carbon finished the day third and fourth.

Mathew Olsen earned a pair of first-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. In the 110 he finished in a time of 15.97, and in the 300 he crossed the finish with a time of 41.79, Boston Huntington was close behind in fourth. Creek Sharp finished second in the 100 and third in the 200.

In distances Camdon Larsen claimed first with a time of 2:03.5 in the 800, Jack Christiansen finished third, and Mason Hurdsman fifth. Larsen would claim another top finish in the 1600 turning in a time of 4:43.34, Champ Justice came in third. Dillion Larsen earned the top spot in the 3200 with his time of 10:27.56, and Jacob Erikson was in fifth.

The team of Christiansen, Larsen, Huntington, and Hurdsman earned a second-place finish in the 4×400 relay.

Olsen was a force in field events as well, earning a first-place finish in the high jump with Huntington taking third. Olsen would also finish in fifth in the long jump.

On the girl’s side, Canyon View claimed the top spot with 196 points, and Carbon took second with 180. Emery was in third with 130 and Juab finished in fourth.

The 4×400 relay team of Addie Hurst, Addy Guymon, Molly Christiansen, and Gentry Christiansen turned in a time of 4:15.85. In distances, Guymon took first in the 800 turning in her time of 2:26.76, Gentry Christiansen finished in third. Hurst took fifth in the 1600, Gentry Christiansen and Molly Christiansen finished second and fifth in the 400.

Kabree Gordon earned second-place finishes in both the 100 and 300 hurdles and Carlie Hurst took fifth place in the 300 hurdles.  Abby Morris earned a fifth in the 100.

In field events, Megan Stilson earned a first-place finish in the high jump, Morris was in second. Morris also claimed fourth in the javelin. Alexis Mcarther finished second in the discus and the shot put and Dazi Thatcher finished fourth in both events.

Emery will prepare to compete at the Eastern Utah Championships on Friday at Carbon High.

April 19- Eastern Utah Championships

Emery High along with 13 other schools from around the region descended upon Price for the Eastern Utah Track and Field Championships. When all was said and done the Spartans claimed fourth place.

Union earned first place on the boy’s side with 181 points, and Uintah was second with 110. San Juan, Emery, and Carbon rounded out the top five.

Creek Sharp got things started in the 100 taking first in a time of 10.99, Sharp also earned second place in the 200. Mathew Olsen claimed first place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.07. Olsen would also go on to finish fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

In distances, Camdon Larsen finished second in the 3200 and Dillon Larsen finished third in the 1600. In field events, Olsen earned a fifth-place finish in the high jump.

The sprint relay team of Champ Justice, Mason Hurdsman, Levi Dimond, and Dillon Larsen, finished the day in fourth.

Uintah took the top spot on the girl’s side scoring 148.50 points, Carbon landed in second with 130.5. Union, Emery, and Duchesne comprised the remaining of the top five.

Three Lady Spartans earned second-place finishes Addy Guymon in the 1600, Carlie Hurst in the 800, and Guymon would go on to finish third in the 800. Gentry Christiansen finished second in the 3200, and Addie Hurst finished third.

In field events, Abby Morris collected the only top finish for Emery in the high jump, and Megan Stilson finished in third. Morris also earned fourth place in the long jump, and Dazi Thatcher took fourth in the shot put.

The Spartans will host the Darrel Gardner Invitational on Wednesday.

April 24- Darrel Gardner Invitational

With just a handful of track meets left before the end of the season, the Emery Spartans invited schools from around the region to Castle Dale for the Darrell Gardner Invitational. With 12 schools in attendance, the Lady Spartans finished in second with the boy’s team taking fourth.

Carbon earned the top spot on the girls’ side with 126.5 points, Emery finished second with 120. Richfield, South Sevier, and North Sevier rounded out the top five.

Skylee Guymon had a day for the Lady Spartans with a top finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.71, and Carlie Hurst finished in fourth. Guymon also took second in the 200. In the 100, Abby Morris finished in second with Guymon in fifth. Megan Stilson ran to a fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Addy Guymon claimed fourth in the 400, and Addie Hurst grabbed fifth in the 800.  Gentry Christiansen earned another top finish for the Lady Spartans with her time of 5:26.67 in the 1600, and Melody Lake finished fourth in the 3200.

In the 4×400 relay, the team of Addie Hurst, Addy Guymon, Christiansen, and Skylee Guymon crossed the finish line first with a time of 4:14.31. Addie Hurst, Kylee Willis, Carley Young, and Lisa Saidinra earned third, and in the 4×100, Dazi Thatcher, Alexis Morgan, Alexis McArthur, and Tatum Jensen came in fifth.

In field events, three Lady Spartans claimed the top five spots in the high jump, Megan Stilson was second, Abby Morris third, and Lizzy Roberts fifth. Morgan earned fourth in the shot put.

Carbon also claimed first on the boy’s side with 138 points, and Richfield finished second with 129. South Sevier, Emery, and Altamont comprised the rest of the top five.

Creek Sharp earned two top finishes in the 100 with a time of 11.09 and in the 200 turning in a time of 23.15. Dillon Larsen crossed the finish line in the 1600 in second, Champ Justice finished the race in fifth.

In relays, the team of Boston Huntington, Porter Hurdsman, Sharp, and Matthew Olsen earned a second-place finish while the Emery team of Jamison Christiansen, Camdon Larsen, Dillon Larsen, and Justice finished fourth in the sprint relay.

Huntington took first in the high jump, Trek Petersen finished fifth. Huntington also earned fourth in the shot put.

Emery will head back to the track on Saturday for the Nebo Invitational in Spanish Fork.

May 8-9- Region 12 Championships

Emery Spartan track and field traveled over the mountain on Wednesday and Thursday for the Region 12 Championships at Juab High School in Nephi. The Spartans earned a pair of top-three finishes in the boys’ and girls’ divisions. The girls took second and the boys finished third.

In the girl’s division, Canyon View earned the top finish with 156.5 points, Emery took second with 113. Richfield and Delta tied for third, and North Sanpete finished fifth.

Gentry Christiansen took a top finish in the 800 with her time of 2:23.58, Addy Guymon was right behind in second. Christiansen would also claim first in the 3200 with a time of 11:30.82, Guymon finished in second, and Addy Hurst third. Guymon went on to take first in the 1600 in a time of 5:22.82 with Christiansen in second. Skylee Guymon earned a pair of third-place finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 200, and a fourth-place finish in the 400. Carlie Hurst earned a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.

In relays, the Lady Spartans would claim another first-place finish behind the team of Skylee Guymon, Molly Christiansen, Addy Guymon, and Gentry Christiansen with their time of 4:13.74.

In field events, Megan Stilson claimed second in the high jump and Abby Morris took third.

For the boys, the host Juab claimed first place scoring 155 points, and Canyon View finished second with 140. Emery finished in third followed by Richfield and Delta.

Creek Sharp grabbed a first-place finish in the 100 with his time of 10.86, he would also finish third in the 200. Mathew Olsen claimed second in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles. Camdon Larsen took second in the 1600, and Dillon Larsen took fourth. Camdon Larsen also claimed fourth in the 800, and second in the 3200.

The Spartan relay team of Mathew Olsen, Creek Sharp, Porter Hurdsman, and Boston Huntington finished third in the 4×100.

The Spartans will head back to the track on May 16 for the three-day 3A State Championships that will be held at BYU.

May 17-18- State Championships

All classifications participated in the State Track and Field Championships at Brigham Young University last weekend. Three days of competition resulted in the culmination of the 2023-2024 season. In the 3A ranks the Emery girl’s team earned a fourth-place finish and the boys sixth as well as a State Championship for Creek Sharp in the 100-meter.

Morgan claimed the top spot for the boys, scoring 102.5 points, and Juab finished second with 87.00. Union (82.00), Canyon View (79.00), and Summit Academy (58.00) rounded out the top five, and Emery posted  41.00 to land in sixth.

Creek Sharp, who entered the competition holding the No. 1 spot in the 100 claimed a State Championship for the Spartans finishing the race in 10.87, just ahead of Canyon View’s Qwentyn Petty and his time of 10.99. Sharp also claimed third place in the 200.

Sharp was a guest on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports and was asked about all his accomplishments at Emery High School as an athlete and where the State Championship ranks.

“To me, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done, I really like track for that reason, and don’t get me wrong I love team sports. Track is so you, you can really tell out there just who is the best because it’s such an individual sport, in your event obviously. You compete together as a team, for team points, but as far as that, it meant the world to me to know that I had accomplished that, probably the favorite thing I’ve done.”

Matt Olsen, who, has been a force all year in both the 110-meter and the 300-meter hurdles claimed two top-10 finishes with a fifth in the 110 and a seventh in the 300.

Camdon Larsen has been at the top or close to it when it comes to distances this season and showed it with three top-10 finishes, taking second in the 1600, fourth in the 3200, and sixth in the 800. Jack Christiansen earned a seventh-place finish in the 400 as well.

In the 4×100 relay, the team of Sharp, Olsen, Porter Hurdsman, and Boston Huntington ran their way to an eighth-place finish.

Union earned the 3A State Championship for the girls with 94.00 points, Canyon View finished second with 88.50. Delta (67.00), Emery (69.00), and Morgan made up the top five.

Gentry Christiansen was one of the top finishers for the Lady Spartans, claiming a second-place finish in the 800, a fourth-place finish in the 1600, and a fifth place in the 3200. Abby Morris earned a pair of top-ten finishes with a third-place in the high jump, and sixth in the 100.

Skylee Guymon grabbed a trio of top-ten finishes. In the 300-meter hurdles, she claimed third, the 100-meter hurdles was a fourth-place finish, and in the 200 fifth.

Addy Guymon claimed a pair of fourth-place finishes and fifth in distances. The 800 and 3200 brought fourth-place finishes and a fifth in the 1600.

The relay team of Skylee Guymon, Addy Guymon, Molly Christiansen, and Gentry Christiansen earned a second-place finish in the 4×400. And Megan Stilson earned a fifth-place finish in the high jump.
