Another successful school year has come to an end for Carbon School District and throughout the year a weekly update has been shared on Castle Country Radio. This was an opportunity for school officials to inform the public of their activities and events that were taking place at the schools. The updates were started with Superintendent Mika Salas, welcoming students back to school in August, so it’s only fitting that she returned to the radio station to close out the updates as well.

The school year has been a very successful year for students, faculty and staff. “We’re just so proud of every single one of our people, all of our people. Because as anyone who’s been in the schools knows it’s not just the teachers, it’s not just the students, it’s everybody. It’s all support staff, it’s anyone who contacts that student during the day,” said Superintendent Salas. This includes bus drivers, school secretaries, custodians and the librarians who all interact with students on the daily basis. They all have an impact on the student’s growth.

The end of the year is a great time to see how far students have come since the first day of school.  “I love this time of year. You are starting to see, you know this is the best time of year in a school, because you do start to see all of the work pay off. The kids start to see it, and they feel it, and the teachers see it, and it’s just a celebratory time and it’s just wonderful,” said Superintendent Salas. Officials are starting to see the end of the year’s numbers come in and they are looking good.

There are a few capital projects that will be taking place at some of the schools over the summer and the most noticeable being the expansion of the cafeteria at Mont Harmon.  “We’re doing a cafeteria expansion at Mont Harmon its been needed for a long time. It’s actually something that was approved years ago but we’ve had difficulty finding contractors to accept the bid so we’ve got it now and we’re in the process. Parents of Mont Harmon know well that there’s been some prep work done,” said Superintendent Salas. The expansion will allow the school to better accommodate the growing student body.

The Carbon School District would like to wish all of their students, faculty and staff a safe and wonderful summer vacation.
