It’s the moment all high schoolers look forward to in their young lives, graduation. The seniors of Emery High School had the chance to celebrate this accomplishment on Thursday, May 23.

The ceremony opened with Senior Class President Taya Cowley welcoming those in attendance and explaining what the Student Council did this year,” As a Student Council our goal for the year was to promote school unity through school involvement, respect, positive atmosphere and school pride.”

Next was an honor address from Cheyanne Bingham titled “Change.” “ High school ensures that we learn a lot about ourselves while doing it. It can be difficult to navigate, yes, but you can’t know or better yourself without change. We’ve reached accomplishments and overcame so many things in our lives already, and I know we can push through those challenges.”

Following this was a second honor address from Elizabeth Carroll titled “Don’t Wait.” “There is no one like you, there will never be anyone like you. Life is hard and we all go through storms, some of which no one will ever go out. But we have a choice when we get knocked down. Stop fighting and give up, or if we choose to get back up and continue to fight we’ll have a chance to flip the script.”

Then the seniors of the Emery High Choir performed the musical number “We Sing to Remember” which was written by Carroll and fellow senior Tyson Laws and composed by Carroll.

Following this was the Salutatory address from Tyler Frandsen “A Strong Community Shaped Our Success.” “ This year would be the year we decided what the next step would be. Whether it be joining the workforce, heading to college, joining the military or whatever else it may be. I’d like to recognize the incredible communities that brought us here today.” Frandsen stated, “Think of your freshman and sophomore years and the kindness of an upperclassman that gave you confidence. Think of the times you struggled the most in school when your teachers had the patience and selflessness to go above and beyond to help you. With many of us leaving Emery County, let us not forget the qualities of the community that shape us.”

Ending the ceremony was the Valedictory address by Jorgen Robison dubbed “It’s About Time.” “Seven years ago we were little fifth graders ready to move on to sixth grade and rule the school. But thanks to changes in our school district we were moved up to the middle school and were again the youngest in the school.” Said Robinson, opening his address,” Eighth grade happened and we were ready to move up then too, but it didn’t happen as we thought, our year was cut short by COVID. Now as seniors in high school, we can finally have true graduation after missing out the last two times … I encourage us all to make time to learn more and make sure to spend, take and make fun so that you can find your successes. But I think now, it’s about time we enjoy the successes we’ve had in our lives.”

Castle Country Radio would like to congratulate the Emery High class of 2024 and wish them good luck on their next adventures.
